Little Big Dog Treats, LLC was formed to provide a meaningful career for our daughter who has Down syndrome. It’s not easy for someone with special needs to secure a fulfilling job that allows that person to work at their own pace in a supportive environment. According to the ARC, the majority of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are either unemployed or underemployed, despite their ability, desire, and willingness to work in the community.
Our goal for this business is to provide the opportunity for our daughter to participate fully in society and enjoy the benefits of working in an inclusive work environment where employees with and without disabilities work side-by-side.
It is our vision as our company grows, to fill an important and socially responsible role in the community by hiring additional individuals with intellectual and development disabilities in addition to those without disabilities. We aim to advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by being a business that models an inclusive environment.
For starters, our all-natural dog treats are made with organic and non-GMO ingredients. Because of dogs like our Golden Retriever, who had an allergy to wheat, we’ve chosen to use oat flour in our products. And for those dogs who tend to have sensitive tummies, we’ve kept the ingredient list for our treats simple. Finally, like with the food we feed our family, the ingredients we use in our dog treats can be found in most anyone’s home food pantry (a.k.a. they’re human food grade ingredients). As Cailyn says, “Our dog treats are made with things that don’t sound gross”.
